“The Universal Now which this work belongs to, is a series using photographs taken from books printed in different years that depict the same place. I splice together the book pages to make one new three-dimensional surface. The publication dates of the books are part of the title of the work.”
Abigail Reynolds (b. 1975) lives in St Just, Cornwall, and has a studio at Porthmeor in St Ives. She studied English Literature at Oxford University before pursuing Fine Art at Chelsea College of Art. Her interest in books and old photographs inform her collages and sculptures which carry contemplative narratives of landscapes and time. In 2016 she was awarded the BMW Art Journey prize at Art Basel, and she is also one of 47 artists selected for the British Art Show 9 touring the UK over 2021-2022. She has works in the Government Art Collection, Yale University Art Gallery, New York Public Library and multiple private collections. She is represented by Michael Hoppen Gallery.
