David Lock (b. 1970) graduated with an MA in Fine Art from Goldsmiths, following a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from the University of Reading. He paints collage-informed
reflections of men and masculinity, amalgamating imagery from advertisements and mainstream magazines to create his ‘Misfit’ paintings. Lock seeks to undermine the original source material, disrupting its meaning in order to create a
new experimental man, akin to Frankenstein’s monster. In 2018, Lock had a solo show Fragmented Eros at studio 1.1, London. He is also a recipient of the prestigious Abbey Award and his painting, El Muniria was selected for the 2018 John Moores Painting Prize after which the Walker Art Gallery acquired the painting for its permanent collection. Lock has recently curated an exhibition at Burra & Friends, currently on display at Rye Art Gallery.
