Rebecca Byrne (b. 1968, USA) is an artist from Chicago, currently living and working in London. She works in immersive site-responsive installations on paper, as well as in a smaller scale on canvas and aluminium. Byrne creates uncanny and fantastical landscapes rooted in fragments of memory, reality and fantasy which reflect an interior world. They explore our relationship to the environment by referencing images of extinct and existing plant life that never actually co-existed, creating pictures of nature in flux. Byrne received an MA in Fine Art from Chelsea College of Art (UAL) and was one of the prize recipients at Creekside Open 2017. She has completed several residencies, including PADA Studios (2019) and The Florence Trust (2018); she was also Artist-in-Residence at The Vincent van GoghHuis (2017) in the Netherlands. Recent exhibitions include A Voyage of Absurdity, Craft Central Gallery, London, UK, This Year’s Model 2.1, Studio 1.1 and The Waiting Place, The Art Station, Suffolk.
