Eileen Cooper OBE RA (b. 1953) is a respected artist known for her strong and passionate commitment to figuration. Sometimes described as a magic realist, she brings an unapologetically female perspective to her subject-matter, which encompasses sexuality, motherhood, life and death. Cooper became a Royal Academician in 2001 and served as Keeper of the Royal Academy between 2010 and 2017, making her the first woman in the history of the Academy elected to this role since the RA began in 1768. Her work is held in many public and private collections such as the Arts Council Collection; the British Museum; the Royal Collection; Victoria & Albert Museum and Walpole Library, Yale University.
